FAQ
Why is Indie Promoter better than a publicity agent? The truth is that if you are on a major label and have a sales target of several million, than a publicity agent may be the way to go. The problem is that music publicists easily run between $1000 - $3000 a month. That is simply too expensive for most independent artists, and often the big firms don’t generate great results. The gamble is a significant one. However, If you are looking to build an intelligent and realistic press campaign around the release of your album, at less than $200, Indie promoter is a fantastic service for the price. Note: As a musician myself, I once payed over $9000 for a publicist who only landed a single review in a college newspaper.
What Publications do you submit too? We submit to hundreds of publications throughout the US as well as internationally. We submit to large, medium and small magazines, newspapers, fanzines, ezines, and blogs. While we submit to hundreds of small and medium size publications we also submit to the industry giants such as Rolling Stone, Billboard and Spin, just to name a few.
How many publications do you submit to? We have a contact database of over 2000 publications that review independent music. This is broken down into a number of different genre specific categories and the number of publications you are submitted to will depend upon your music and how much cross-over potential it has. That being said, generally, most artists receive between 300 - 500 submissions. This list is growing all the time.
How long does this process take? Once you make the purchase it will take from 2 - 7 days before your submissions go out. Much of this will depend on you and how prompt you are in responding to your agent during the letter drafting stage. As far as responses from editors, this will vary greatly. Some will respond within hours, others may take weeks.
How many reviews will I get? There is no simple answer to this question. Music is very subjective and there are simply no guarantees. We have had artists receive over fifty reviews as a result of our service and others only a handful. Much of this has to do with “the story” behind your project. If your band is about to go on tour with the Foo Fighters or you have sold 30,000 copies of your latest release, you are probably going to receive an overwhelming response to your query letter. On the other hand inactivity, no back story, or if your band just plain sucks, it may be a bit harder. A quality digital press kit and CD package can also help dramatically (something we can help you with). The bottom line is that we can only expose you to publications, the rest is up to you and your music.
Can you guarantee that the reviews will be favorable? No. Any reviews or features you receive as a result of our service will be 100% legitimate. We have no control over the content of the pieces. This will be solely up to the individual reviewing your album.
